Scott McIntosh was born in Humble, Texas, just outside of Houston, on February 4, 1982. He graduated from Houston’s Cypress Creek High School in May of 2001 and was a lifelong member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church.

After attending college, McIntosh enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 2003. He reported to Fort Knox in Kentucky for Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training on the M1A1 Abrams tank.

After completing his training at Fort Knox, McIntosh was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, stationed in Fort Stewart, Georgia.

In January of 2004, Cpl. McIntosh deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for his first of two combat tours.

When his first tour was complete, McIntosh re-enlisted and was sent back to Iraq for a second tour. On March 10, 2008, Cpl. McIntosh and four other members of Delta Company, 1st Platoon were conducting a foot patrol in central Baghdad’s Mansour district.

According to the Savannah Morning News, “They had just left an Iraqi merchant’s shop when a suicide bomber walked up to them and detonated a vest packed with explosives.” All five American soldiers were killed in the attack.

Cpl. McIntosh was 26 years old and was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart for his actions in defending his country.

On March 18, 2008, Corporal Scott Alexander McIntosh was laid to rest with full military honors at Houston National Cemetery (Section S2, Site 34A).

In Scott’s memory, his family launched th Scott A. McIntosh Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Folds of Honor organization. The annual event honors local fallen soldiers and has become the country’s largest fundraising golf tournament—providing thousands of scholarships for veteran and military families.
